Meet the Maker: Riccardo Poletti, Conte Collalto

PROPER PROSECCO.

PART ONE:

PART TWO:

With so much Prosecco widely available in the market, we refrained from stocking it just for the sake of having it. However, when it comes to Conte Collalto’s Prosecco, we couldn’t resist sharing this brilliant sparkling wine with you all because it’s just that special.

What sets them apart? While the most common proseccos are classified under the DOC quality level and can be produced all over Northeastern Italy, Conte Collalto’s Prosecco hails specifically from the Conegliano e Valdobbiadene region, a very small area known for its hilly terrain, unique microclimate and strict quality standards. For that reason, wines in this region have earned a DOCG status, which is the highest designation of quality for Italian wines.

In addition to quality, Conte Collalto is also rich in history and tradition. The Collalto family can trace their ownership of vineyards in the region to a document dated 958 AD, making them one of the oldest wineries in Italy. Working with native grapes over international varieties and using the Charmat method, they produce terroir-driven, elegant Proseccos that just simply can’t be replicated.

To learn more about the secret sauce behind their wines, check out this two part video series where we catch up with Riccardo from Conte Callalto at Vinexpo Paris!
